The Electric Morgan EV3 One-wheel Drive Roadster
Morgan has been in existence for over two hundred years and, with the emergence of new companies, it was lost in time until it announced the Morgan EV3, at the 2016 Geneva International Motor Show. The automaker is bringing the retro design it was famous for back in the day to the modern electric car.
The Morgan EV3
The EV3 shares many resemblances to its predecessor the Morgan 3 with its open cockpit and three wheels. That is as far as the similarities go. The EV3 may seem like a vehicle from a science fiction movie, but there is more science than there is fiction. These are the specs of the brand new Morgan EV3:
- Weighs 500 kgs.
- Has a 21-kWh lithium battery pack giving the EV3 a range of 150 miles when fully charged
- A liquid-cooled 46-kW motor to drive the rear wheel capable of going from 0-62 mph in less than 9 seconds
- Top speed of 90 mph
- Bonnet, side pods, and the tonneau cover are made from composite carbon panels
- Digital display in the instrument panel shows the range and the charge left as well as a conventional speedometer
The Morgan Auto Company announced Frazer-Nash Energy Systems as the technical partner that will best help in the incorporation of EV technology. Frazer’s contribution is intended to give the EV3 greater performance in an age of rapidly changing technology, greater acceleration, and a lower center of gravity over and above the figures presented in the first EV3 concept in 2015.
If you are interested in the EV3, you will have to place an order since the expected production is at least two cars per week, and the list is growing longer. Morgan won a £6m grant from the British government to develop a range of zero-emissions cars for the future.
