Al Unser Jr. comes out of retirement to race Pike’s Peak
Unser Jr. is set to make a comeback in the Pikes Peak International Hill. Unser Jr. is a household name when it comes to racing. He has been a two-time winner in the Indianapolis 500. This race is highly anticipated because Unser last raced at Pikes Peak in the 1989 event. This is almost three daces later.
Fans and racing enthusiasts will be waiting to see if Unser J. still has it. In the 1983 event, Unser Jr. won and was crowned “King of the Mountain”. In 2007, Unser had made a statement saying that he had retired and had no intention of participating in another race in the foreseeable future. However, staying away from a game he loves has not been as easy as he anticipated. Again, he hails from a family of winners with his father and uncle having paved the way for him.
Being one of the luminaries to watch, his racing car is of major interest. Information from the organizers is that Unser is set to race in a 1936 Chevrolet Sedan. This is his arsenal of choice to take him through the Hill Climb.
Unser Jr is slated to compete against seasoned winners such as Paul Dallenbach, Clint Vahsholts, Layne Schranz, and David Schmidt.
It’s been 29 years since Unser Jr. raced in the Pike’s Peak event. We can only wait to see how he performs and we wish well.
