Tony Stewart: No more sprint car racing
Tony Stewart was involved in an accident last year that claimed the life of 20 year old sprint car driver Kevin Ward. It’s been almost six months after the accident and the three time NASCAR Sprint Cup Series Champion says he has no plans to drive a sprint car and he may never get behind the wheel of one again.
"I'm not going to be in a sprint car for a while, if ever again,'' said Stewart. ”This is a way to give back to the sport. I'm passionate about it. I'm really excited."
Appearing on SiriusXM NASCAR Radio’s “Tony Stewart Live”, Tony talked about a range of topics but the one that stood out most was the talk about sprint car racing. Stewart also told The Sporting News. “I’m ready to put the last two years behind me and never look back. I’m not looking in the mirror, I’m not talking about it, I’m not thinking about it.I’m going back to being me again.” Stewart was involved in a crash in 2013 that left his leg severely broken. Next was the accident that cost Ward’s death last year. He was however cleared of any criminal wrongdoing in Ward’s death.
He was also asked if he feels like there is anything to prove. “I don’t feel that I have to prove anything to anybody,’’ he said. “It’s more what I want to do, not what I feel I have to show people I can do. I want to be winning races again.”
