1.    Cats live up to 20 years. During that time, you will have to take care of her. You should know that switching houses and owners is very stressful for a cat. If you are planning to move to another house, wait until you do this, and then get a cat.
2.    Cats need a lot of attention. Actually, they need more than dogs. Most cats like to sleep near their owner or to be near him during the day. You will have to spend a lot of time with your cat in order to determine her desires and her personality, because not all cats are the same.
3.    You will need money. Beside free time and desire that you already have, having a pet will cost you. The annual cost is between $800 and $1.000. This includes: food, toys and litter. Emergency treatments can increase this by $250-$2.000.
4.    Cats do not need to spend a lot of time outside. If you live in an apartment, this is the perfect pet for you. Indoor cats live much longer that outdoor cats. Cats that spend a lot of time outside, can contract a disease and can be hit by a car.
